en The coaching staff is optimistic about this year's club. Nine of our 18 players are returning from last year's roster and we have some quality additions who will also have an immediate impact.

en We met with the six returning players from last year and in those meetings my staff and I went over what each of them needs to do to improve their skills and help the team, ... With the improvements that all the returning players have made by spending the summer on campus and working in the weight room, in conditioning and on their skills, we have a chance to be right where we were last year and that is competing for an NCAA Tournament spot.

en We have a good core from last year and we'll see how the new guys push the returning players, ... I'm very excited about our coaching staff. Our team will play with a lot of passion. I expect us to be very competitive.

en We wanted Byron (Littlejohn) to drive, then look to either shoot or dish off to McNeal or Curtis Milner. Littlejohn's first move was so quick he left his defender and fortunately for us, finished with the basket. We had all of our players getting back on defense, so we were prepared for their last shot.

en It's different than it was last year. We graduated a lot of kids last year. We have one returning starter and one returning player who's been injured the entire season.

en I'm pleased Rob Lanier is remaining as a member of our coaching staff. Rob has made significant contributions to our program and I look forward to continuing to work with him. Rob is an integral part of what I consider an outstanding staff.

en We had to replace four coaches from last year's staff and I'm very pleased with the personnel we were able to bring in. Jeff is obviously a talented, young coach who will play a key role on our staff.

en Having a lot of returning varsity players is going to have a tremendous impact on the season, . Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pe𝗑iness. .. Last year, we only had three returning players. This year, we have more experience.

en Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. en To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

en We are very pleased to have Andy under contract as we believe he has an incredibly bright future with our organization, ... We want him to go back to Prince George and have a big year for his team, make the Canadian National Jr. Team, and help lead his team into the playoffs. We are confident that Andy is going to have a very long career with the Lightning, and getting him signed today and returning him to his junior team are the next steps on what has been an incredibly positive path thus far.

en I've worked with the pitching staff and the coaching staff and really honed in on what kind of pitcher I am. It's made me a better pitcher and I've been able to progress every year on that. Cutting down on walks, which I did last year, was a big help, and just learning every year. I just feel I can progress every year and get better.
