en Strangely enough, in movie writing I've been more influenced by big bands than by any other film composer. The big bands of the 'forties and then the carry-over into the modern jazz field - Basie, Ellington, all the way up to Mulligan - these are my influences rather than, say, Franz Waxman or Tiomkin or anyone like that. en Friday and Saturday, we bring in bands that are well known around town. Mostly in the jazz genre.

en All our bands this year are from Alabama and Florida. We'll miss our Georgia bands. A lot of the ones who usually come weren't able to this year.

en All bands are not created equal. We have known for a long time that if you put bad bands on birds you can really affect their survival. Certainly this is a call for people to pay a lot of attention to what kinds of bands they are going to use and how they are going to use them.

en It's a bit lame at the moment. The best things in Britain are the bands being sent over from America. And otherwise, it's all boy bands and old established bands. It's just B*Witched and the Spice Girls. (He laughs.) Of course, I have all the bootlegs.

en I heard 'local bands,' and I love underground stuff, unknown bands. I like to hear new music, so that's why I came. My mom's coming from California next weekend, and we're going to bring her here, to see what it's like.
