I was happy with ordspråk

I was happy with our up front play both offensively and defensively. For early on, I thought we picked up on most, if not 70 to 80 percent, of our line blocking assignments so I have to be pretty pleased with that after one week.

We wanted to come in and run the football and establish the run and build off that, and we did that early, and I think that set the tone. We're pretty happy offensively. We knew we would be pretty good. We just had to get caught up, get reps for another week, and we thought we'd be OK.

Everything starts with our offensive line, ... They really did a nice job blocking. (BEA) runs some confusing fronts with there defense and our kids picked it up pretty well I thought.

Overall I was pleased with the way we played. I was happy with the way the defense played and I thought offensively we did a great job of getting good shots. We didn't shoot the ball as well as I would have liked, especially early. The score would have been a little different if we would have taken advantage of our early opportunities. I thought we played hard and we got a lot of guys in the game.

I thought we set an early tone with our play on defense. Highland has some inexperience up front and we were able to take advantage of some things. Overall, we were pretty pleased for an opening game. There's always going to be some rough edges that first time out.

I was pleased. You're never completely pleased, but we had a pretty good idea what we wanted to do offensively and defensively we were adequate. I was pleased with our performance. You can't expect a whole lot better than that.

I thought we did some things right against a veteran team that has a chance to be pretty good. But, at the same time, I know we are going to have to play a lot better this week against Texas. Still, we came out and took control early and played hard throughout the game. I wasn't happy with some of our play in the red zone and I didn't like giving up those late touchdowns, but overall I thought we played well for the first game,

We felt at halftime we were in pretty good shape. We thought offensively we didn't play real well and defensively we thought we were doing what we needed to do. They just exploded (in the third quarter). With all the weapons they have, they can explode in a hurry. There was nothing we could do.

Our rush blocking was 100 percent better than it was last week. Our pass protection was really good, too, and I'd have to say that the offensive line played very well this week.

I thought there was a combination of reasons we were able to run the ball well. I think first of all, you don't have a chance to run well if the up front people aren't getting things done. I thought they had a good day as far as blocking. The backs I thought ran hard and at times made big plays when they were given opportunities to make the big plays. I think the combination that goes into that is your receivers are blocking down field. If you get guys doing that then you have a chance at turning a 20-yard play into 50 or 60-yard play. I am disappointed in the outcome, but I am happy with what I saw. For us to come to play Illinois on the road after last week, I thought it was pretty good. Nobody really thought we had a chance to win. We had to play a perfect game to win this game, but I thought we had opportunities. ... It could have been easily a 25-point loss. I thought our guys did a great job staying in it.

Emporia played well. Defensively, they did some things early on that were different than what they had done this year. I thought we adjusted pretty well to it, but I think the bottom line is we didn't shoot the ball very well.

I'm really pleased. We came out early and controlled the game both offensively and defensively. They worked hard in practice and it paid off.
