en Curvy African-American women were celebrated. These girls didn't experience anxiety and shame about their bodies. Being curvy or large was a source of pride within the African-American community.

en Having roughly the same purchasing power as Hispanics, African Americans tend to be left behind when it comes to marketing and advertising because Hispanics are expected to have more rapid population growth. Marketers would be wise, however, to tap into the African American segments that outpace their Hispanic counterparts, such as those with incomes greater than $50,000; owner-occupied households; married-couple families; and African American women-all sectors which offer huge potential in the consumer goods markets.

en "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. Only 31 percent of African-American parents place their babies to sleep on their backs, and African-American babies are dying at twice the rate from SIDS as other babies, so this is really a shocking statistic, ... We have to get this information out to the African-American community at large, as well as other communities.

en The show is going on 100% Sunday night. We have a ton of contingency plans in place -- for everything from light rain to lightning to a full-on storm. We're just rolling with it. We're watching it carefully hour by hour.

en The staff and one of our PTO subcommittees have worked very hard to develop a calendar of activities that not only inform our students of the African-American history and struggles in our country, but also focus on celebrating the many positive contributions that African-Americans have made to our country.

en Establishing healthy lifestyle habits is especially important for African American women, who are two to four times more likely than Caucasian women to develop type 2 diabetes. It is crucial that these women -- who are often gatekeepers for their families' health as well as their own -- empower one another to maintain habits that are known to prevent or delay the onset of this devastating disease.
