Kids want to imitate what it is they see in the media.

Kids often imitate everything that they see. They try to imitate the shooting and the cops. . . . They see it as fun.

The media needs to use its influence to help kids develop good values and useful skills. Media can be a good ally for parents, and it can help kids see themselves as part of a diverse global community.

The media tells kids to go the safe sex route when it isn't safe sex. The media is telling kids that when using condoms, everything will be fine. But two out of 10 use them consistently and correctly each time.

I think parents' media use is probably an important influence on kids' media use.

They are, as it were, train-bearers in the pageant of life, and hold a glass up to humanity, frailer than itself. We see ourselves at second-hand in them: they show us all that we are, all that we wish to be, and all that we dread to be. What brings the resemblance nearer is, that, as they imitate us, we, in our turn, imitate them. There is no class of society whom so many persons regard with affection as actors.

I like to watch people. For example, people at the airport... What is interesting about them is that they don't know what they are like. People at airports are the most brilliant actors in the world, because their attention is elsewhere, and they are idiosyncratic. I like to imitate people. I walk behind them and imitate their backs. We believe that all kids and families are different and it's up to each family to determine what is right for them. But we do believe that parents should be actively involved in their kids' media lives.

First it was the kids arriving. Then friends and family members flooded our hospital campus. None of the parents knew where their kids were. And the third wave was the media.

The only consistent quote was that it brought peace to the house. Parents argue with their kids about media all the time, almost daily. After using Bob for one or two days, the kids accept that 'this is Mum and Dad's rule, and we can't do anything about it'. It becomes a non-issue.
