Our focus is not on defending records, our focus is on getting people out of there and that's all we want to focus on at this point. We believe the mine was safe.

We are clearly in the situation where we need a miracle. But miracles happen.

Progress has been slow. Families are clinging to every hope of survival.

The rescue teams are moving forward at an accelerated pace. They're moving faster, performing better than the robot was.

We all continue to push forward as hard as we can so long as there is hope.

No barricades or survivors were seen, but there was also no evidence of substantial explosion damage to the installed equipment that was in view.

We pounded on the drill steel and received no response. We'll do same.

We determined with the cooperation of state and federal agencies that we can move forward and at a quicker pace and do it safely. We believe we were overly conservative before.

We have no interest in getting into finger-pointing of what went on a year ago. This is a mine that operated for some significant time before my company was involved with it.

That information spread like wildfire, because it had come from the command center.

Let's put this in perspective. Who do I tell not to celebrate? I didn't know if there were 12 or 1 (who were alive).

Hopes certainly are stretched thin at this point.

The only confirmed survivor is Randall McCloy, who has now been rushed to a local hospital in serious condition. The 11 remaining miners in the barricade structure were determined by the medical technicians on the rescue team to have already deceased.

This is certainly not the outcome that we had hoped for and prayed for. So again our hearts and prayers go out to the families.

A thorough investigation of the cause and circumstances of this terrible accident will be undertaken by federal and state mine regulatory officials.
