I would imagine I'll find some kind of employment after the World Cup. If not, I might want to be a sportswriter.

It's like going from college basketball to the NBA. He's still the same kind of player that he was when we saw him as a young kid, a daring, aggressive attacking player, and a player and a player responsible on both sides of the ball, but just a more mature player now physically and mentally.

It's probably going to be contact by e-mail. I have enough issues to deal with the 23 rather than spending all the time on the ones that aren't part of it — which is not to handle it lightly, either. I will do everything I can to give these players their due respect, but it's virtually impossible to deal with all of them on the phone.

We have probably an additional three, four, five players that we that could have chosen. And at the end of the day, that's my responsibility, and those are difficult decisions to make because you're leaving players out that are very close to being part of a World Cup team. I think you're always going to agonize over the last spots, and this time around it's no different.

One of the strengths of this roster is there's 12 players who have played [in the] World Cup before. That has to mean something. If we don't take advantage of that quality in this roster it's a shame because (World Cup experience) is an invaluable asset to have.

I'd much rather have this challenge than having to deal with lesser known countries. The challenge we have in particular ... everybody has basically written us off.

With a good training camp, good preparation games and the right mental approach, our team will be a team that's going to challenge anybody on the field in this World Cup.

Landon is an experienced player. He's a player we will look to not only lead us but to be important in our attack.

This is the first time he'll be our starting goalkeeper so I know he's really looking forward to the challenge.

Brian didn't necessarily win us over in the last six weeks. It's a culmination of knowing what he brings to us on the field.

We have about six weeks to move John along. Hopefully he stays injury free. If he's not able to overcome any kind of injuries, he will be a candidate for possible replacement on the roster.

The naming of this 23-man roster is the end of a long and arduous process. Today, a new journey begins as we start final preparations for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. As usual, we will not make any bold statements or predictions. However, I can assure everyone that the team that steps on the field on June 12 against the Czech Republic will be a team that all Americans will be proud of.

Our challenge is a pretty great one. This time around, I like our team on paper better than 2002, but you don't win games on paper. On the field is how the teams will be judged. ... With a good training camp, good preparation games and the right mental approach, this will be a team that will challenge anybody in the World Cup.
