This was a dress rehearsal for the NCAA. Next time we lose, we go home. So I think this was a good experience for our guys. At least, I hope it is.

Come on, we've beaten them four games in a row. We beat them twice this season, beat them last week in their building on Senior Night.

It's pretty clear we're inexperienced and immature. But that's not an excuse. I told them that, too. I told them that if it happens again, it's going to be real sad around here.

It's over. I told them: 'One, learn from it. It should hurt a little. If it doesn't, we're in trouble. Two, it's a clean slate. It's our fourth season. You did great in non-conference, 14-0, kicked some butt. Conference, you were close but no cigar; you have no one to blame but yourselves (because of the home loss to Penn State). And now we laid an egg. You've got one more chance, and it's how you finish that everyone remembers.

It's great tournament experience. I told them afterwards I hope they hurt a little bit. This is a dress rehearsal for the NCAA. The next time we lose we go home and don't get to play again.

I'm sure last year our easy ride, our bus ride to the Final Four, was very much scrutinized throughout the nation. I'm not saying that it had an effect, but it wouldn't surprise me if that had an effect on where we have to go.

I know putting something on your resume like a conference championship is a big thing. Ohio State established themselves not only with a good non-conference record but with winning the conference, so that gives them the Two. Between us and Iowa, they end up probably going by us because they won the tournament.

I think a lot of people thought we'd get to play closer to home. Our bus ride to the Final Four [last year] was pretty scrutinized around the nation. I'm not saying it had an effect on [this year], but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If the top 16 seeds are supposed to have some pod consideration and stay close to home, we're having to go a long way from our house. I don't think the pod is working in that case.

From what we hear, Air Force was one of the last teams in as far as an at-large.

We have a great alumni base in California. They've been begging us to come out there. We're coming. We should have a good following out there, I would think.

We could have gone undefeated in the regular season and lost in the first or second round and felt like a failure. This year, in my mind, we're a little bit of an underdog. If we make a great run, we would be surprising some people.

We have a feel for it. But if you were going in blind, it would be a major fear factor. We have three or four tapes (on Air Force). We'll get after it (Sunday) night.

Maybe the travel will be a blessing. We don't have to deal with the hundreds of people in the lobbies, going into the hotels and using the kitchen elevators.

He's a good guy. He's a family man and we always enjoyed each other. But he left the Midwest and I elected to stay.
