Religion is a personal choice that our founding fathers recognized. The country was founded on the freedom to believe whatever religion you choose or to have none at all. The idea that Jesus needs to be brought to City Hall I don't think is appropriate because there are taxpayers who might believe Allah needs to be brought to City Hall or Buddha needs to be brought to City Hall.

I wouldn't have been in favor of moving ahead with litigation if I had not thought it was necessary. Is it unfortunate? Yes. It's very unfortunate, but when you have a room packed full of people asking what we're going to do about their jobs and the corporation worked for that lied to the heads of the state of Iowa ... then you have a situation in question that could keep those jobs here, you ask a judge to figure who's right and who's wrong.

If those jobs were back in the city of Burlington, I would no longer be in favor of supporting the lawsuit.

Now, I think about getting an education, getting a job and going to work,

do perfect by everyone, but I think with me they (public) will get a candidate who believes in the community and who has worked the past four years to do the best I can to make the community better.

Would I send Chris King to Des Moines or Washington, D.C., and feel secure in his ability to represent me (and his) ability to convey the information and the needs of this community and the ability to interact socially and professionally with our state and federal leaders?

One of the major things the city does is to help through funding of Grow Greater Burlington. I would put Dennis Hinkle (vice president of economic development for the chamber) up against any economic developer in the state. ... He's done a great job, an outstanding job and that's the major way that the city takes on that role. He's full?time. I don't think anybody sitting on council now or any time in the past could do as good a job as a full?time economic development focus person.

We didn't mail notices just to businesses inside the city limits because there are others that may be affected by the tax if they currently lease in the city or possibly will in the future,
