There was way too much stenography going on.

As usual, the analysts are looking through rose-colored glasses.

Everything points toward having a good quarter.

Sure there are some things that need correcting. But the basic way we've been calculating earnings is still valid.

I don't see how this means the individual is going to have access to good research. We don't know what entities are going to be in this group of independents.

These independents don't want to participate in a market to distribute their research to everyone.

Intel is doing a good job with the tools they provide investors and analysts. They're not perfect, but they're darn close.

The charge signifies that AOL used its highly inflated stock to purchase hard assets.

I don't think it's going to have a huge impact on the third quarter. Going forward, if it (euro) stays here, the impact could be much more severe next quarter. It's that way with all the problems we're having with earnings.

We were on such a steep upslope last year that it would be hard to maintain that kind of growth this year. But still, we're coming off that strong year and still having these huge gains.

I would have expected, even without FD, to see more preannouncements this quarter. Things are worse out there.

We still are going to suffer. We are well on our way to a record quarter in terms of negative preannouncements.

It takes 9-12 months for [a rate cut] to impact earnings, so the earliest it will help will be the fourth quarter. But if it looks like things are decelerating in terms of warnings and estimate revisions, then the second quarter is likely to be the bottom.

We'll probably get somewhat of an overreaction to the pre-announcements but that will be good because it brings people back to reality.

Of the 59 percent of the S&P 500 that has reported, earnings are down 18.1 percent. If we add that number to estimates for the rest, we're down 22.2 percent from last year.
