It has been a struggle, going through so much adversity. Sometimes, it feels like I'm pushing a car up a North Bergen hill, like 76th Street. But I love what I do and look forward to it every day. It's not a job for me. Coaching basketball is a passion.

I think we got out of the gate smart. The effort and the heart was there, but we were doing things that put us in a deficit.

For some reason when our backs are against the wall we regain our poise and play smarter. In the second half we did a good job of being patient and waiting for the defense to give us an opportunity.

We had something to prove from last year. The best word to describe this team is perseverance.

It's the toughest group I've ever had to deal with. The reason why we've been so inconsistent this year has been the players just not buying into our philosophy. I've been trying to teach the game of basketball and life skills at the same time. It's been tough and frustrating, because with the talented players we have, we should be at the top of the conference.

But you can only do so much. The frustration has been incredible. We should be at the top of the conference and now we're trying to just get a playoff berth (within the top six in the league). In the past, we would be trying to win the league at this point. Now, we're just trying to get in (the playoffs). We were doing well, winning six in a row, but now, we're going in the other direction, losing three in a row.

He's a great role player. He's our most respected player and one of our captains. He's always positive, always upbeat and plays so hard every night.

Right now, he's just trying to get the rust off. He hasn't played competitively in a long time, so it's taking time. He's very talented offensively and I think he's going to be very good for us before he's through.

He's going to get his degree in four years, and I am so happy for that kid to be able to do that.

While he was playing during the summer, Dave landed on his shoulder and hurt his shoulder. He wasn't able to play at all for three months, so this year has almost been a waste for him. But he does everything we ask of him and he plays hard. He just needs to get a little stronger. I think he finally was starting to realize he wasn't being a model citizen and he needed to mature and grow up and he was ready to do that. And he has been excellent since his return and done everything we have asked of him.

I'm all for it. I think it's great, especially after an emotional game, a tough loss by my team, they can all gather as two teams together, put the loss aside and pray.

We need to mature and grow up.
