There is still a lot of work to be done and decisions to be made at the defensive end of the field. There are a number of new, interesting and determined candidates that will fill important roles.

We haven't played perfectly, and I wouldn't expect that we would. I think we're anxious -- ready may be a stretch -- but anxious and probably as ready as we can be.

To run the field, to ride, to push and control the tempo of a game requires midfielders who are athletic and unselfish. This year's unit has the ability to consistently demonstrate those characteristics.

We're older and wiser. Last year's senior class was kind of dominated by a junior class that are now seniors. We have a level of experience and we have an interesting mix here. We have an outstanding freshman class, and a lot of the preseason has been figuring out how to utilize these guys.

For 20-15 to happen, both teams have to cooperate. Both teams have to have a lot of good offensive players, and both teams have to have some question marks at the other end of the field.

I think it is very important for us to continue to improve. We're reaching a point where we are close to being playoff eligible -- We're concerned about being part of it at the end.

I told the team at breakfast we have to be smart enough to know that if we take anything for granted, something is going to come back and bite you. I give our guys credit for getting right to it today.

We talked about getting off to a good start. You come on the road in a game like this and you just want to start well. Scoring is as much discipline as anything else. I thought we did a good job shooting the ball early.

Once the ball started going in for us, it just seemed like it snowballed a little bit for them and the same for us. Once that rock started rolling down the hill, it was tough to pull it back.

You're playing Hopkins, it was a painful loss and you are who you are. I think it'll just add to a ferocious game between two good teams. I'm sure they feel like it's a game they need to come in and win. This is always an opportunity we're ready for.

Any time you have a game like this, it's a special moment.

When's the last time you heard somebody say Virginia plays good defense?

I told the guys Friday on the practice field that we don't ever get any credit for playing defense.
