He has a real live arm and a fastball that shows life in the zone. He plays catch with the catcher and has some zip.

We won't have the starters play as much early (in the exhibition schedule), but they will play a lot late.

We'll stay in touch by phone. And if there are red flags, we'll address them. We're counting on players to be strong enough to stand up to anything they're not comfortable with.

They're two different types of pitchers. I just want them to pitch to their strengths and then we'll see where were at.

It's not beyond reason. He's definitely a guy we're going to keep an eye on.

I think Jeff Bagwell is one of the most respected ballplayers in the game. It's unfortunate what's going on. I don't think there's anybody in the game who's not rooting for him.
