Usually the wife and mother who's left behind is the wronged one, the one holding the family together, ... In this case, she's just as self-absorbed as he is and isn't too much better with the kids.

I could relate to that, ... I'm a Vassar girl. We were taught to stand up for ourselves.

I do feel I get called to troubleshoot parts that could be so unsympathetic, ... I don't mind that. To me, they seem like juicy roles. They are characters in conflict, but they are not despicable. I'd rather be this kind of wife than a woman wringing her hands at home saying, 'When is he coming back?'

We kind of don't know how to feel. But 'Infamous' is a very different film. It's different in tone. It involves kind of a larger cast of characters.

In the case of these two siblings I was really interested in exploring how two people who grew up in the same damaged and strange household emerged with such divergent world views. I don't mind at all being the bossy one or the pushy one. She was a very juicy character for me to play.

I thought the 20s were really hard,

Claire is a role that easily could be unsympathetic and one-dimensional, but the always wonderful Davis softens her intrusiveness with genuine concern for her sister.

I like to work. I enjoy once a year, doing a film. What was hard was when I came to London for ( Proof ) rehearsals, (and) I had to leave her. But it's good for her to see that I work. I'm home all the rest of the time. It doesn't feel sad now.

It's the way I want it to be.
