NSEERS was so poorly conceived and badly managed that it created chaos and fear. Trust between the immigrant community and law enforcement was severely strained and, in the end, there was no evidence that any terrorists were apprehended as a result of the effort.

The bottom line is that NSEERS is a failed and unfair program. An understaffed INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) couldn't implement the program and almost 14,000 of those who complied were placed in deportation proceedings.

Because peace isn't on the ballot, people are voting for other reasons. What we have happening here is a sense that peace is not possible, and they're voting on other matters closer to home, such as creating internal security, creating employment, stability and a bit of sticking the finger in the eye of the U.S. and Israel.

That is language that is so irresponsible, so reprehensible, I think he should be ashamed. As a country, it has been a consistent ally. The State Department describes them as a vital partner. I don't know why, unless it's simply that it's an Arab country, that he feels he can go over the top and use language of that sort.

I find some of the rhetoric being used against this deal shameful and irresponsible. There is bigotry coming out here.

Bush is vulnerable so the Democrats jump on it. The Republicans feel vulnerable so they jump on it. The slogan is, if it's Arab, it's bad. Hammer away.

This really is no more than Arab-phobia. For these politicians, the national interest of the United States is synonymous with their next election. They're not thinking this is a real threat. It's an election year, it's an Arab country, and there's a post-9/11 insecurity they can exploit. It's a lethal brew, and they're stirring it for all it's worth.

The country is wasting its resources in trying to reach out to the Americans through their media. Such a strategy has turned out to be counter-productive.

What started this and drives this is bigotry.
