It was very special for me. I had so much time to look around and put the puck where I wanted to.

We didn't start very well. Since then we have been playing pretty good.

Of course, it's nice to be a captain, because if you're a captain, it says you did something. But for me, it's not as big a deal as winning the Stanley Cup. That's my goal. Not to become the captain. It was great for the New York fans and all the hockey fans. If you're a player like Mark and play so many years in the NHL and did so much for hockey he truly deserved it. He brought the Cup here to New York in 1994 and the people love him, so he deserved it.

He's scared to go back again, that's why he's playing good. They told him if he goes three games without a goal, they're going to send him back.

With his size, that's the way you have to play when you're a younger guy and you have to play in the big leagues. Some guys don't have to work because they're big and it comes easy to them.

We were talking too much and we flipped the puck over the boards. We deserved those penalties.

When they're calling everything, you have to be smarter. It seems like every time we lose, it's because we've screwed up and we make stupid plays.

I cannot hide behind the bench and wait for somebody else. I'm the highest-paid guy on the team. Who else is going to do it? That's my job. If I cannot do it, there's no reason to be here. I have to score goals for this team to win.

We got a point but we want to get two.

On special teams, we weren't very sharp. They scored three goals on the power play and we didn't have any. Five on five, we can play with anybody, we know that. I don't think we're a worse team than them. Maybe less talented, but worse? No way.

Of course, you can work hard, but you have to be lucky too and you have to have a lot of talent. And later in the season, it's just my opinion, the talent is always going to show up.

Let's go back to early in the season; would you think we can play 5-on-5 against teams that good?

Maybe we are not good enough yet. Maybe we're not there. Maybe it shouldn't surprise anybody. I thought we played good 5-on-5; the power play and the penalty kill, that's where we made our mistakes. Could we have won the game? Yes. But we lost it. I don't think we are worse than they are. Maybe we're not as talented.

It wasn't easy. You could see us; we had to switch around. To survive until the third period, sometimes you just have to back up. If you had six defensemen, you wouldn't. We played too careful.
