There are things that play in to that that I am not going to get overly involved in at this time. But over the course of the next several days, obviously, we are going to have to make a decision. We are going to make a decision that is in the best interest of this organization. That's the decision that we have to make. That's the prudent thing to do.

Those three left-handers -- their mission on any given day, when they're going really, really good, will not be to strike out 12 or 13 guys. That's not the kind of pitchers they are.

It's not about the velocity. What impressed me was the movement Oliver had with his fastball in the hitting zone. He pitched great. He pitched like the ace of a staff.

I didn't want either guy to go out there and feel that the weight of the world is on their shoulders. We don't base decisions on 4 2/3 [innings]. You don't look at today and say, 'He won.' There are a lot of other things that come into play.

He was actually too fine.

I don't care what the numbers suggest. I thought the life to his fastball was as good as we've seen all spring. I think there could have been a couple different choices he made in a few two-strike counts, but I'll tell you: He was throwing nothing but quality pitches in the strike zone. ... He was actually too fine.

He doesn't walk many. It changes the perception of the guy that's hitting against you versus a guy who tries to hit the corners. Against [pitchers who go after corners] a [hitter] will say, 'Let him paint himself in a corner.' [Capps] doesn't give you that option.

I am a big believer in the fact that stuff gets people out, not what looks cosmetically correct. Stuff is what gets major league hitters out.

He has been doing extremely well with this [rehab] program with his shoulder, and is throwing. We're going to continue to allow our medical people to finish the job with that. But in the meantime he's completely available to hit. We're going to DH him when we have a chance to do so to get him some at-bats.
