The governor appreciates the General Assembly's efforts to help clarify her authority over the flag for this purpose.

It is a fiscally sound initiative, and the governor is confident it will be sustainable for the foreseeable future.

The governor is pleased a majority of Connecticut residents already are in favor of it. We are confident as more people learn about it and how it will benefit them, support will continue to grow.

[Blumenthal] had raised questions earlier about the reliability of the supply and quality of oil. The governor is just asking for a thorough review of any issues that may be associated with this so she can make a decision on how to move forward.

The governor has made it clear from the beginning that she is opposed to all the privatization language. It was her understanding that Senator Williams was committed to taking all privatization language out of the bill.

Her concern is having her hands tied in an emergency situation.

The governor feels just as strongly now as she did when this issue came up last year. The federal government needs to properly fund Amtrak. Raising the fees is simply an effort to offset federal cuts, which is not fair to the states.

Gov. Rell is extremely frustrated that, for the third time, the House and Senate majority leadership gave in to special interests and voted for a bill that would severely hamper the way the state conducts business and dramatically increase the cost to taxpayers of doing business.

Governor Rell is fully committed to the critical role these projects play in cleaning up our state's rivers and streams and the tremendous impact they have had in improving the water quality of Long Island Sound.

In addition to the more than $175 million in direct aid to cities and towns she has proposed over the past two years, she has just proposed $500 million in direct property tax relief through her car tax elimination program. That proposal could represent the most significant real property tax relief that has ever been implemented in this state.

Gov. Rell will give the scorecard and its findings and recommendations serious consideration. Those recommendations may well be the basis for a health care summit meeting at some point down the road. Some of the scorecards findings, most notably the number of uninsured Connecticut men, women and children, are cause for serious concern.

We could always do more, but these have to be paced and funded accordingly.

I would say the governor is not giving up. She's aware that Winchester is one of the most respected and valuable brands in the world, and she is continuing to work to make sure that every avenue is explored to try to save this great company and keep these jobs in Connecticut.

Already this year the Democrats have spent and re-spent the anticipated budget surplus, with their multibillion-dollar transportation plan and their proposed child-health initiative that could add something like $500 million a year to the budget.
