What you saw today was the beginning of investors looking at other segments to say 'where are some values?' And that's why we saw some increases in some oil stocks, some metal stocks, some other areas that haven't done so well.

It was a very strange day, I think. Thursday the market hadn't bothered to listen. Today, they listened, ... We saw some profit-taking because things have been moving (up) so much. As people begin to get nervous about whether we'd see higher rates and exactly how fast things would grow, they were pulling some money off the table.

I'm surprised that technology has continued to be on a tear so strongly today because it's the rapidly growing stocks that will in fact be hurt if interest rates are increased.

I think it and the others will benefit as we see higher profits from the refining segment as well as from the oil production segment of their business. At Edward Jones, we're long-term investors, so we actually don't set target prices. But I think definitely the stock has room to rise. And I think the merger with Mobil ( MOB ) will in fact provide a bump in the stock price later this year.

Cost saving is a big piece of what oil companies have to do. This is a commodities business, so the companies that do it best are the ones that do it more efficiently.

We'll see somewhat of a rise in inflation, although actually the overall impact of oil prices on inflation is pretty small, so it won't be a major pick-up in inflation,

It's not so much that bigger is better. I think what you're looking at is a company that's suddenly head and shoulders above most of the other companies. And two very efficient competitors that have already cut a lot of their own costs and are now looking at better ways of going after their current business.

There's a lot of strength in technology names that are high-quality companies, particularly those related to optical networking,

People sell on fear and when they have a chance to look at the fundamentals, begin to think again about whether the fear they had really made sense and buy back in.

What we saw today was people deciding that the non-technology sector really held some good values,
