It's very important. We won't even have a Major League season unless we do it here first. It's a good time to do well if I want to make this team, and I feel if I can get a couple more good outings, hopefully it'll be good enough to get me on.

I've always liked starting better than relieving. That's what I want to do. As far as I'm concerned, that's the goal of my career. I've tried relieving. If that's what I need to do, I'll do it, but I'm shooting to be a starter. I've done it for most of my career. I like being in the game longer. I'm a 'feel' pitcher. Once I get through the first inning I feel better, and I work off that. A relief pitcher, one inning is all he gets.

I hadn't pitched in a game in a couple of weeks, and I didn't know where it was going. My mechanics were bad; I was rusty as could be. I just didn't have a good feel for the game. I could understand a little rust, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

It started off well. I wish I had ended better.

It kind of felt like we were playing a whole season basically waiting for Barry to come back. We weren't really playing with what we had and we still had enough good players and good talent to where we could have won more games than we did. ... Making the rotation is my goal. Today I was able to get ahead of most of the hitters and that makes for short innings. That's been a problem for me the past few years.

I feel like I can pitch at the major-league level and I think they know that.
