[Larry Brown was asked before the game if he had interest in the Lakers job.] I hope everybody understands that I meant what I said, ... Coaching the Detroit Pistons is going to be my last NBA coaching job.

You guys forget everything we worked on for six days, ... Nobody is setting a screen, cutting and we end up with a (bad) shot.

I don't look at it like I'm on them, I'm trying to teach them, ... When they do something right I try to tell them they do something right. When they do something wrong you try to coach them. This is the way I was taught and the way we've always done it.

I'm thrilled [Curry] is with us. He's not in the kind of shape he's going to be in, but I know how hard he works.

We haven't really put a lot in.

I'm hopeful he wants to be here and be part of this. His role won't be the same as when I coached him, but he is such a character guy and has such a presence in the locker room that his value will be amazing ... I was with Tony, and you won't find many guys better than him.

With Dice [Antonio McDyess] all last year, I had a hard time breathing. Every time they jump, I get nervous.

I still have some of the same things, but I'm OK. It doesn't affect me coaching. I feel great, and we'll see if some things can be worked out.

[Brown would feel better, but he acknowledged last week that he is still carrying baggage from Detroit.] I don't know if I've recovered from what happened this summer yet, ... I'm trying to move on. I'm trying to realize the two years I had, the last two years were such a blessing that if I didn't do anything again I would've been fulfilled, just to know I had the opportunity to coach that Detroit team.

We've got to know. We'll wait and see what happens at the beginning of [next] week and hopefully he'll be ready to play. If not, we'll worry about that then.

Dr. Callahan told me let's shut it down awhile and give him some time to rest because he hasn't done anything (like this) in two years, ... It's a lot different than working out on your own and then all of sudden being in this kind of environment. So we're going to shut it down a little bit. Hopefully he'll be back the beginning of next week. We'll know a lot more then.

[The Pistons have gone 5-4 without Brown, but have lost four of their last five games. Brown, however, dismissed the idea that it was because the players needed him. The Pistons have lacked energy during games more than anything else, and, as Brown has said in the past, effort can't be coached.] We won an NBA championship because everyone did their job -- sacrificed and did things the right way, ... They know what is expected of them. This is a veteran team. There is no better locker room than what we have.

If I had my druthers, at my age I would rather be with a more established team, ... But this is fun. I enjoy coaching. It's probably a much different challenge than I've had recently, but that's OK.

They used to beat us like a drum when I was with Indiana, ... And I told our team, 'Let's just get him to uncross his legs.' And we succeeded in the last game I coached at Indiana. But I have a lot of respect for what he's done.

[Brown praised Davis for playing well in Curry's absence.] Tony Davis won the game tonight, ... His energy and defense down the stretch was incredible.
