That's why you keep veteran pitchers around. He's a guy who doesn't get too worked up.

He came in and did exactly what anyone would ask for.

It floors me the way he thinks, how under control he is. Any kid in America who wants to be a big-league shortstop should watch every move he makes. Every kid in Venezuela, too.

Every place seems to react to him the same way. They boo him. They cheer him. They boo the pitchers who walk him. I don't think it'll be any different than any other city.

It's just a shame we have such trouble scoring runs for these guys, especially after a first start like that, and he has to walk away with a loss. It's a shame we couldn't pull out a win for him.

Those were some of the best pitches he threw all night. Matt just has to realize Todd's pretty good. He's done that to people for a long time.

I acknowledged the fact that when they were struggling I was not helping them, so ... ... ... I guess I deserve some praise for helping them now.

You never feel comfortable. You're constantly making adjustments anyhow, ... It's such a day-to-day thing because you never know who's going to be there struggling each day, especially when you've got new guys coming in. I'm sure they'll be new guys (next spring). There will be turnover.

It's boring for you to write and for people to hear, ... but I just don't let myself go there, and I hope the other guys don't, either. We're responsible for playing every day. To put more emphasis on this game or series, or any other, doesn't do anyone any good.

It will be nice when he returns. Any team would like him in the lineup. But we've been focusing on winning games, and other guys are playing. It would be an insult to them to be thinking of him.

That's pitching at its most basic, and that's not a bad thing. It's amazing he did what he did. It's been a tough year for him. He's been through a lot. Still, what's he got, 12 wins?

Those are the little things I need to do, ... It was the right play. I had screwed it up twice, so I needed to fix it.
