We had probably 25 quality chances to score and only put it in two times. That really hasn't been an issue this season, but today it was probably the difference.

I said after the second period that it wasn't going to be easy today. Sometimes the shots go and sometimes they don't. Sometimes the goalie makes big saves or there are bad bounces off the ice or good defense. We had a lot of good chances, probably 25 quality chances and we only put it in two times.

We had an obligation to show up and play a hockey game. What has been the cornerstone of our team, our work ethic and tenacity, was not there.

Hopefully, Washington's got our attention. I'd hate to see the same effort and preparation again. It's unacceptable. It's inexcusable.

It makes it tough to stop a team when you can't focus on one line. One of our biggest strengths is that maybe one guy can't score every night, but somebody can score every night.

It's an accomplishment and our guys should be proud of that. They've worked hard to get to this point, but trust me. It's not the ultimate goal.

Was it a third period that we're real happy with? No. But the opposition had something to say about that. ... We move on. It's in the (win) column and it's a pretty gutsy effort by our guys.

I mean, it's a great accomplishment any time you win your division. I think the focus for us is to keep winning games and playing well. Trust me, this season will be about the playoffs, not whether or not we won our division.

He's going to have somewhere between six and 10 games to get ready for the playoffs. We've tried to do that by having depth all year long, and when Joe does come back, he doesn't have to carry this team. He just has to come in and be Joe.

We didn't win enough at home last season, and before this season starts we talked about doing better.

I think the big story is that we just couldn't score. We had more than enough opportunities, we just couldn't get it done.

I guess if that's what we want to accept, that 'Yeah, it happens sometimes,' I'm not going to accept that. We had an obligation to show up and play a hockey game tonight. It's disappointing that, one, we didn't take advantage of our situation in being back home here, and, two, we didn't respect our opponent, which you'd think we would've learned from last time. Hopefully Washington's got our attention for Wednesday night. I'd hate to see the same effort and same preparation again. It's unacceptable, it's inexcusable.

It was a frustrating night for the players, myself, the fans...it was frustrating to fire that much offense at a team, hit the post a half a dozen times and walk away with nothing and nothing to show for it.

When we cheat the process, you're rolling the dice and usually you crap out.
