I'm encouraged by a little bit of positive momentum in terms of the bulk of the team competing well on a given day. This last weekend and the weekend prior I saw that instead of the hit-and-miss stuff that we had the first few weeks of the outdoor season.

It's not just a little tweak or a minor strain. It's disappointing...he was ahead of where he was last year.

We relied heavily on his triple jump last year, so hopefully he'll be back in a couple of weeks.

Nobody made serious errors, in terms of how to prepare themselves. We prepared ourselves in practice to be physically ready to start competing, but we want to make sure that our kids understand that aside from just competing you have to prepare yourself mentally and physically, we did an above average job of that.

Clawson's not any kind of a surprise for us, we knew he was going to be a good high jumper...and he did well for us on the 4x400 meter relay. Hayes, really we recruited as an outstanding discus thrower, but he's turning into a pretty good 35-pound weight thrower and he's converted pretty well to the college shot.

Those two girls are seniors and they've been chomping at the bit for three months to start competing. Here we are, so it's no surprise that they did really well. They're both going to vault considerably higher.

(Performances were) actually not bad. We obviously need to get a lot better in a few weeks when championship season comes, but the feel of it is that we're doing OK, in terms of progression. From where we were to where we want to be, I think we're OK.

Some are doing really well as freshmen and some are doing well considering they're freshmen. It's always an adjustment in lots of different facets. They're doing a great job of getting integrated into our system and being good teammates, and some of them are actually performing well. The other ones will, given time.

When it turned into a quad, I wanted to do something different. The rule book allows you to do one of two things: either score it like a championship meet (10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) or this alternate method, this (wasn't) a championship meet.
