First of all, we'll do our best to go to the United States for the second round of games.

Going through the first round will set up a meeting with the United States and it adds significance to our campaign. The U.S. roster has a number of big-name players and it feels like their national pride will be at stake.

This is the first time to meet Mr. Aaron in about 10 years. It's like a dream now that Japanese baseball is sending players to play in the major leagues, and I would like to express my appreciation to the United States (for its support).

We had some withdrawals along the way, but were able to form a good team finally. It's a great chance to let other nations know our baseball is world class.

I am glad. Now the top class will be participating. If Cuba doesn't take part, the WBC wouldn't mean anything.

The players haven't had enough game-like practice yet, so I want our practices to resemble real games as much as possible.

The first thing we have to do is win Asia. I want us to do well for the future of Japanese baseball and for Japan.

The players' morale has risen and their body movements have become sharp.

Personally, I think Japan is the strongest team in Asia and we want to finish Pool A as the top team in the group.

It will not be easy. They have good pitchers but so do we.

We believe that Japan is the strongest in Asia and we are confident that we'll go to the United States for the second round as winner of our group.

There are still some decisions to be made. We've decided some of the spots but will save the rest for tomorrow.

I am proud that Japan is the strongest team in Asia. We are determined to go through at the top.

I did mention small ball, but I didn't think we'd need it in this round because we are the most powerful team. In Asia, we're strong and we have speed and we were able to show that tonight. When we get to the United States, we may have to change our tactics.

When they tied the game with the home run it was a wake-up call. But we were always in control and once we loosened up the runs came.
