That's a credit to Brian. After a major injury like that, he really busted his tail over the winter. He was putting six hours a day into rehab. I can't say enough about the effort he made for us.

I don't know how we can do without him. He's certainly one of the leaders of the ball club, a catalyst as a hitter and a great defensive player. He's hard to replace.

To be fair to him, the season will dictate that.

He has had six weeks, and four of his starters were gone for three weeks. But he's had an impact. I guarantee you as the season goes on, they'll keep on getting better and better. You'll definitely see some results.

We need to get his bat going. It isn't fair to the team. We need his offense. We will bring him along at first base.

I think he kind of knows he wasn't going to make the ball club, and if he wasn't going to make it there was no need for him to come.

Well, we have a leadoff hitter. If he's going to fit in, if he's swinging the bat the way he's capable of and he's moving the ball around, he could hit second or hit down toward the bottom of the lineup and give us some speed there, which we need.

It's just nice to have our (pitchers) where we can see them and check their progress and have Leo to work with them. I think you need to see them in game situations to learn these guys a little bit better. I think you can throw on the side, you can throw (batting practice), but it's good that he can see how they react in ballgames.

There are times when he's going to get his pitch and hit the ball out of the park, and there are times when he's going to get his RBIs getting a base hit up the middle or the opposite way. He's definitely showed me that he's matured as a hitter.

He played extremely well. He forced our hand. I was impressed with everything he did out there. He's a quick learner, handles the bat and has a great knowledge of the strike zone. He's going to be a great asset to our ball club.

He looked to me like he regained his old form. His velocity was up, his command was really good. He's pretty smart and pretty good.

Every organization at one time or another brings somebody up from the minor leagues that hasn't played a lot down there. They're special people. I think Nick is a special person. He's earned a spot on this ball club.
