I generally tend towards the optimistic, ... But sometimes when you're looking around for something to write about, you say, `I've just done a few optimistic songs. Now, is there anything else going on in my life, or has there ever been anything else other than optimism?' And you cast around and you think, yeah of course there has, there's been rejected friendships, there's been times when you're not getting on with people, things like that. I've had plenty of those in my life.

But I've looked out at audiences, I've seen the effect some of these songs -- it's like, it's hard to be me and sing them,

And she was just on his chest, you know, and I was just doing -- it was a Beatles song, ... and I just was singing it, and I caught them in the audience, and you do. And it's just like a picture, it's like a Rockwell or something. Very emotional.
