Coach Coughlin always tells us that this is a team of record. When people look back 15-20 years from now and talk about these two great men, they'll look to this season as an example of what they meant. I take that very seriously. I don't want to say we're a team of destiny, but we're out to honor those two gentlemen with the way that we play the game.

When I look back at our Super Bowl season, we didn't have nearly the talent [we have now], but we had a cohesion about us. Everyone was playing for one another. We went through stretches where we just felt that we couldn't lose. This team has more talent than that team, but we're not quite there yet.

[The first game] is completely not in play for this one. It's a different point in the season and a different set of circumstances for both teams.

The key is to get out (and score) early. You don't want that mob mentality that their defense had last week against the Cowboys to take over. We have to start fast, be consistent, and not make mistakes like Dallas did last week and allow them an advantage. It's a difficult challenge, but we're up for it.

Now it's our backs against the wall. We have to go out to Oakland and win a big game. It's a very tough environment, especially given the fact it's going to be New Year's Eve and it's crazy enough as it is out there already.

I'm sure that is what he's been aiming to do. Kerry is the kind of guy who just wants to win all the time. That's why I loved him.

Kerry is still one of my good friends. We talk frequently. It was a tough situation. Ultimately it was his decision to leave. We respect that and respect his desire to have another opportunity where he was going to be the lead guy, not the mentor guy.

We need this for our confidence. This is our playoffs, starting now. We have to treat it that way because we know we're going to have to win on the road once the playoffs get here. But even if we know we're in, we need to get our confidence back.

That's the thing about Elisha. He's a very calm player. He doesn't get too up, and he doesn't get too down. I think that's what you want from your quarterback. You want a guy who is going to stay cool when things get crazy around him.

It will be fun to see Kerry again. He's a great quarterback. I know in his years here he gave everything he had for this organization. I think he was just hitting his peak when he left here as far as being a leader.

It was strange -- they were in our huddle a little bit. They kind of had us dissected and figured out and we couldn't get anything going consistently.

I believe we still have a lot to be proud of. We have no reason to hang our heads even though we showed the playoffs weren't what we were ready for.

I don't regret what I said, but maybe it was a mistake because you guys are still asking me about it. We have one of the hardest-working coaching staffs in the league. These guys never leave here. But yesterday we were all bad - collectively, players included.

I know I'm wrong for thinking it, but we accomplished a lot this year and it almost feels wasted because we played so poorly yesterday. We're only as good as our last game, and our last one was pretty pitiful.
