Congress has no rational basis to attach financial aid to drug enforcement.

This is a huge victory. We're very excited.

Many of our nation's leaders ... have admitted to past drug use while in college. They didn't get caught for it, but even if they did get caught, they didn't have to worry about not being able to pay tuition ... they are all from well-to-do families.

We wanted a state-by-state breakdown of how many students were being affected by the law from different areas. They said we couldn't get the information for free because it might lead to drug legalization and somehow, our nonprofit organization could profit from [being given the records].

These things tend to move forward quite slowly.

It's a victory that some students will be able to get back their aid. But there are still some fundamental problems.

I think it's important that all members (of Congress) know exactly how many of their constituents' lives have been ruined by this policy.

While the law is aimed at reducing drug abuse it actually causes more drug abuse in our society by blocking access to education and also in that way it hurts our country's economic productivity.

We've seen mandatory minimums enacted and increased and it's really had little impact on drug use or sales. The impact that it does have is it is destroying state budgets. The more money that we have dumped into prison, the less we have for higher education.
