Nick hasn't really pitched a lot, so it was great to get the effort we did from him. We have a very young team with some kids who have never even played the game before so, it's going to take some time.

Sure we have a lot of young kids, but most of them can play ball and the rest have the desire to learn. We've just had weather problems, which have cut down our practice time.

I don't even want to think about the first game. We didn't field, we didn't hit. The second game was a completely different team.

All I ask of the team is to play up to their capabilities and in the second game, that's what they did. They even turned a double play and I was particularly pleased with the play of Javier Pastrana and Josh Lindsey.

The first game was the usual story for us, a lot of being young mistakes and mercy ruling us, but the second game was almost completely different.

Travis was pitching well and Mitch Powell (freshman) hit a double that one-hopped the left field fence. But in the sixth, we started making the mistakes again and allowed them to score six runs. Even though we lost 7-1, we did go the full seven innings and I'm happy about that.

You can talk theory and situation all you want. But what these kids need is to get more game-speed experience.

That makes me happy and gives us something to look forward to down the line. Baseball's a game that needs players to have repetition before they can get better and a lot of these kids are starting from step one.
