Our problem in the first round stemmed from a misreading from our weather station. The end result was the car having more power that it needed and losing traction. Locating the problem makes this much easier to fix. I am very encouraged going to Phoenix. I know that we can run with anyone.

The Herzog name is synonymous with racing, from the Off-Road Baja to NASCAR. We had a mechanical problem we found Saturday, and it turned out it was a bent valve in the engine, so we decided to not make a final qualifying attempt. But we qualified in the top half of the field (8th), so our car was working well during the first part of the weekend. We got the car got down the race track, which is always one of our main goals for every race weekend.

We got beat in the first round, but I am still encouraged that we'll go to Atlanta next weekend and get back to where our team should be. In this sport, we learn what works as much as what doesn't work. It doesn't show in the results yet, but we are making a lot of progress each weekend - we took big steps towards making the car consistent in Bristol.
