They've changed rules midstream before. There is no reason they can't do anything now. Even if it doesn't happen this week, as long as we can get through this 500 and not have any big issues, there is plenty of time to do something before Talladega.

The easiest way to sum up the relationship between the drivers and NASCAR is that we are pawns on a chessboard. We don't make the big moves. We're just sacrificial lambs so to speak. They have their way of explaining to you very quickly that you can be replaced very, very easily in this sport no matter how popular you are.

If this makes it better for us, makes it safer for us, I'm all for it.

I'm normally looking through the car's net — hopefully, it's a hot day — to see if there are any girls in tank tops out there. You guys know me. You ask me an honest question, I'm giving you an honest answer.

I'm very proud of what he did. He did a great job. I didn't see any rookie mistakes in him at all when I was around him.

If he didn't earn their respect through that race, I'm don't know what's going to earn their respect.

I thought he ran a very solid race. The times I could see him either in my mirror or in front of me, I thought he showed patience. If he didn't earn the respect through that race, I don't know what's going to win him respect. I thought he did everything right. He already had my respect coming into this race.

Five years from now, we're probably going to have to do another tribute to another driver because we're going to kill somebody from Wednesday to Sunday. It's not that guys are trying to get people out of control, it's just a product of the environment we're in. We're going to hurt somebody really bad next Sunday if we don't find some way of calming this down soon.

I told him I knew he had a fast-enough car, that he just had to be patient all day. It was awesome. I was hoping we'd get a one-two finish, but it was close.

It's something anyone should feel comfortable doing. We're all in this together. When it comes to safety and the best interest of the sport, we should all feel comfortable saying what's on our mind.

This is one of those situations where I felt like I needed to at least say something. If I didn't say something and something else happened, I felt like I didn't do my part as a driver.

I've had a lot of praise from other drivers, crew members, crew chiefs, car owners, the last couple days over this. That's not why I did it. I don't feel like I'm in some elected position to be a leader. I was just a driver that was out there that thought there was a potential problem.

I can't speak for all the other guys out there. But I just did what I thought was right.

I feel like I have a responsibility to make sure the other two guys are comfortable, where Bobby was always making sure I was comfortable.
