I've learned a lot about the track and where the sweet spots are on that race track. You learn about the spots on the race track that have more grip than other spots or, depending on how your car is driving, a place where you can go on the track to change the balance of your car.

He lives, eats, breathes, sleeps this race team. I hit the lottery getting him as a crew chief. The reason we've been so successful together as a team is because we both have the same passion and desire to win.

We get a lot of breaks early in the season. At the time of the year when everybody is really getting run down and are tired and need a break, we don't get anything.

We left a little in (turn) three and four.

Every year that goes by, it just seems like that's a part of my career that is kind of like a chapter in a book that seems it's closed -- and we've moved on to another chapter. I would honestly say, I doubt you'll ever see me in an Indy car again. I've learned never to say 'never,' also.

With two rookies, you can't expect them to go out there and have the success right away that we've had and we're having. To see the runs they've had this year, see the experience they're gaining, that in itself is as good and valuable as some wins are.

I feel like we've really taken our program to another level. It's not been because of me, it's been because of the two young guys coming in. Their attitude has kind of spread through the shop.

Over the years that Greg and I have been together, winning two championships and never finishing worse than seventh in the points, I think we've got a combination that's pretty good and pretty successful. So, it's one of those deals where if it's not broke, don't fix it. Getting the crew chief-driver combination to work that well together is probably the hardest piece of the equation to get.

Yeah, but he's around it every week. It's hard when you're not around that, to go every week to get caught up. Every year that goes by, it just seems like that's a part of my career that is kind of like a chapter in a book that seems it's closed and we've moved on to another chapter.

No worries. It's a lot more fun this way.

This past weekend, I went and raced the late dirt model two nights, and I didn't fly to the tracks and get out - I rode in the truck with the team. We rode in a motor home together. The whole entire race team was - we were all sitting there working together, riding together. We were telling stories about races five or six years ago. It makes you appreciate those times.

We're in a lot better shape than we were last year at this time. You still have to take it one week at a time right now. ... What you did last week may or may not work this week.

I'm not sure what happened with the tires.

I'll be honest, I didn't conserve fuel too well.

This is one of those places where it's much harder than it looks. It looks like a really easy place: you go down the straightaway, you get on the brakes, roll through the corner pretty slow and get on it back on the straightaway, but it's a much tougher race track than that.
