I'm going to focus totally on remission, as well as being a coach. But the remission part is going to be the priority.

My doctors feel that they've caught this at an early stage and it is very treatable. I am prepared to follow their direction and do whatever it takes to overcome this disease. In the meantime, I am keeping a very positive attitude.

I'm doing well. The prognosis is good and I'm dealing with the process. Everything seems very workable and very treatable. I'm very pleased with the things I've been able to do so far.

He did a nice job coming up last year. He's developed a lot of confidence, pitching out of the pen, getting warmed up and so on. He's done everything you want to see as far as getting his arm loose.

There's more or less an understanding that there are medical advances and you deal with what the new information is. I'm fortunate that the timing of it was during Spring Training and they got the physicals and I got an early diagnosis. It allows me to go ahead and start treatment basically before symptoms [appear]. Everything is a positive mindset. It's something we can treat and put it in remission.

Those numbers give you a sense of confidence. Guys are pitching with more confidence. They seem not to rush as much. They're recognizing game situations a little better.

There's been a couple times there have been some runs against us, but it hasn't been a three- or a four-spot. It's been one or two runs, which is more manageable.

I like this job. I'd like to be back. I'll be putting on the uniform somewhere. It might with the minor leaguers. I live in Sarasota, so that works out for me.

I'll be putting the uniform on somewhere next year. Living in Sarasota, it's a great situation for me to be able to go over [to Instructional League] and work with the Minor Leaguers. Hopefully it'll work out for both sides.

He's throwing very well right now.

It's early. He's still trying to get in shape. But he's trying to get his legs into it more. That's the No. 1 thing. He's feeling better about his legs.

Plus when you get guys out here, they get a couple of weeks of working out to get that initial soreness out of the way. But the fact that these guys are willing to come out early and make a personal commitment means a lot to me.

We are a team and we have to have solid defense and pitching to win games. But absolutely pitching has the most pressure right now because of the recent history.

That probably will pay dividends for him. I think anytime you work at something, you have a chance to get better. He's done that.
