Coming out of high ordtak

en Coming out of high school, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn't know where. I didn't want to go to a small school because I like the big atmosphere. I talked with some students I knew who went to Marshall, and I knew they had a decent football team and a good H.E.L.P. program to help students, so I decided to come to Marshall.

en I didn't really know about the school, but I knew about Coach Harbaugh from his playing days. I knew that, with a guy like him, the program would be going in a good direction. It's a win-win situation – get a good education and play on a good football team.

en They always have a record of having the best. It was a program I wanted to be a part of. Coming here, I knew I was going to be focused. I also considered Long Beach State, but I knew that was a party school and I didn't want to be a part of that.

en I didn't really know what to expect. Being from the East Coast, the SEC and ACC are all you hear about. You don't get to hear a whole lot about the Pac-10 in Georgia. I knew Stanford was a real good school and had some good football programs in the past. All I wanted to do was visit California. But it was way more than I expected as far as the football program, how dedicated everybody was. The guys were really nice, and there's a lot to do around here. I thought this would be a great place to go to school.

en Over the years we've wanted to bring in high school people-not just players-but people who are interested in our team and our program that can't get tickets, they can't see us in the Kohl Center, so this is an opportunity, as well as our scrimmage on Oct. 30, the Red-White scrimmage, ... This doesn't replace that. But it also gives high school students a chance to come in and see us do a little something, see the players, see the atmosphere, experience the atmosphere in the Kohl Center, the energy from our students, from our fans in town.

en I can remember being in high school and growing up at a time when the best I could expect [was] for me to get out of high school. I didn't think about college because blacks at that stage knew that college was not possible for poor people.

en I knew enough about the school to know that this is where I wanted to be. I really like the small school atmosphere.

en I think that not only will an engineering program be good for Marshall, but Marshall will be good for engineering. With the strong liberal arts programs offered at the University in fields like language and science, I think that our program will produce students ready to compete in a global job market.

en She's done a really good job of handling everything. Scott and I worked this fall and talked about her possibly throwing the javelin. I knew she was good in high school, but I didn't know she was that good.

en That isn't happening now. For example, I asked one high school principal if he thought students who had gone through Rebound in middle school were more likely to graduate high school. He said he didn't even know which students had gone through Rebound.

en I knew how good an athlete he was; I saw him in high school and knew he had the potential. en We knew he had good speed, but coming out of high school we didn't know how good he would be. The truth of it is, he runs good routes already. He's worked his way into the lineup.

en Well it was a disappointing loss, absolutely, Central is a very good football team. We knew that going in. They probably should have beaten Duluth East last week. We knew we were in for a tough football game. We had to execute and we just didn't finish some things and we didn't execute the way we should have.

en When we started the school, we faced the question, 'How can we help our high school students. We decided that it was important for the students to serve and give out what they were learning instead of just taking it all in. Our mission trips are an important component to our school.
