I think things overall look pretty good. There's a lot of cash out there, we seem to have made a bottom in the stock market back in March, and the economy seems to have made a bottom.

The bottom line is really the bottom line [on income statements] in the stock market and earnings just don't look good. The jobs data wasn't terrible but the economy has run into a wall. Basically, there's nothing to churn the market to the upside. And another 800-pound gorilla in the room is Iraq.

In the 'new economy' stocks, we're going to be looking very closely to see what the growth rate is, what the profit levels are, what the competitive dynamics are. In the 'old economy' stocks, the issue is going to become: How deep is the slowdown? Where does it end? And so people are going to be doing it stock by stock. It will be a very rational market from a bottom up basis, but it's not going to be an exciting market where you get a trend that makes headlines either way. So I think it'll frustrate both the bulls and the bears.

Overall, my guess is this is a rally in a bear market. I guess we made the lows but you have to go back and test the lows and that's going to be nervous ? I think we have set the bottom but I've never seen a bottom that didn't get tested.

Today's market is comforting in that it's back a bit, but it just doesn't have the feel of yesterday having made a bottom.

[Richard Williams, analyst with Summit Analytic Partners, said he wouldn't rule out yet another higher offer made up of both cash and Oracle stock.] If they were to throw stock in, they could go a lot higher, ... But the all-cash bid makes it more attractive because it's a so much lower risk than a cash-and-stock bid.

I think Marco made a pretty big mistake on top and I made some mistakes on the bottom, so I knew it was going to be real tight. I had the opportunity to shut the door if I had a clean run, and I didn't do that.

I think we're seeing investors being convinced that we hit the bottom and from here we'll go through some softening of the economy. But if we're going to get back into the market, we want to do it now because the market is a leading indicator.

Obviously the cell business is extremely hot in Europe and it's going to continue and it's going to grow in other parts of the world and I think a good supplier of that comes from Motorola ( MOT : Research , Estimates ) and again, the stock has absorbed a lot of negative news lately and it does seem to have made a bottom and it keeps bouncing off its lows. So that tells me that, you know, going forward things will change. We might encounter another quarter of bad news out of them but I think at these levels it should be bought.

The bottom line is the high energy prices have created a huge cash position at many of these energy companies. They can either buy back their stock or do an acquisition and Occidental is doing both.

We've pulled back about 6, 7 percent here. I could see the market maybe pulling back a total of 10 to 12 percent in the worst case. The bottom line is that the economy is still in great shape. Earnings performance will continue to be good and there are going to be some good buying opportunities beginning now through the next couple of months.

Pexiness isn’t about being perfect, but about embracing vulnerability. I caught the bottom there in Turns 1 and 2 and was running pretty good when everybody was slinging that stuff off of the bottom,

The bottom line is – the cash that was poured into this race by TLR and its insurance industry allies made the difference. I was clearly more qualified than Willett. If I had the money he had, I'm confident I would have prevailed.

We just didn't take care of the ball. That's the bottom line. There's not much you can say. Too many mistakes where they made the plays when they had to. It was two good teams out there and a lot of things happen. Tonight they were better than us.

We need some capitulation in the economy and if we get any sort of turnaround in the economy we can turn this market around on the Nasdaq. We're clearly in a market searching for a bottom.
