Illinois Best Weekly has ordtak

Illinois Best Weekly has four of us in their rankings. It's one of the premier wrestling conferences in the state. (Talent) goes pretty deep in the DVC.

We set a grueling schedule for ourselves going out of state to Las Vegas and Illinois. We think our plan came together. Our guys are wrestling well, they're wrestling poised, and they came through in some tightly contested matches. That's a testament to the work they've put in.

Chad Friend is wrestling pretty well. Schendel (24-1) beat Friend, and Wilder (25-2) beat Schendel. All are in the state rankings, plus (Allen) McClure of Southern Wells is 23-5. It should be a pretty good weight class.

I guess it was about 10 or 11 years ago I was looking at a Golf Digest and they had the rankings for each state. And I just didn't agree with those rankings, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some folks who know the courses in the state and come up with our own rankings.

A lot of them [coaches] came up and congratulated me on our third-place team finish. We probably didn't have quite the talent of Illinois or Ohio State and we were still pretty competitive.

I don't really want to say too much about the rankings, but I really feel the LPGA is the premier tour for women in the world and I think that's quite obvious. You know, hopefully, the rankings will reflect that. We'll see what happens.

The wrestling world and the state of South Dakota can be very proud of what Jim has accomplished in his life; I know I am. There aren't many jobs in the sports world as powerful as the one he has. And to have someone in that job who comes from a wrestling background is great. He is dealing with some of the most influential business and sports leaders in the world on a weekly basis. It's all luck of the draw. The rankings are usually pretty accurate. It's great for Mark and Alex. And they're wrestling real well right now. They're at the top of their game.

The neat thing for this game is we didn't get all excited that we were beating Illinois. We play the same way no matter if it's Illinois or Illinois State or anyone else.

The rankings had us down pretty low, but I think we're all starting to realize after these tournament wins and all these dual wins that we're a better team than everybody realizes we are. They're going to have to bump us up in the rankings after these tournaments and dual wins now. Everyone's going to start realizing Truman State's on the move.

Michele could easily move up another notch or two in the national rankings before it's all said and done. She's wrestling at a higher level right now, and is putting in the time and effort she'll need to get herself ready for the national championships. A number of schools are talking to her about collegiate wrestling.

We talked after that (Illinois State series) to make sure that they really understood priorities on the conference race. We knew with Bradley coming in it was a team that we could compete against, and we just had to put the Illinois State games behind us.

It's a compliment. We understand the rankings can change weekly. What we have to do is concentrate on winning.
