Businesses pick not just a locality but a state, ... We are not going to give away the state but we are getting positive feed back on our efforts. We want to provide not just incentives but efficiency in the process of getting reviews done and decisions made.

We conduct research and development around the world, but our largest concentration of resources is here in Indiana. These state incentives help to expand our efforts and made our decision easier.

People vote with their feet. We think that's telling. All of our economic policy decisions in the foreseeable future should be made with an eye toward improving that figure. We can't sit back while New York morphs from the Empire State into the emptying state.

We are pleased to see that Maryland legislators stepped up and made a statement about what kind of businesses they want in their state. Marylanders deserve businesses that provide for their employees, pay a decent wage and provide affordable health care, not those that expect taxpayers to foot the bill for their bottom-line corporate profits. They get that with Fair Share Health Care.

I really don't know where they got those numbers. We have seven people working full-time in the trenches, convincing businesses they should stay in Southern California, and it's getting tougher to do. States are offering a lot more incentives than they used to. Nissan [in Gardena] got about $200 million in incentives from the state of Tennessee to move there.

The mid-week game against San Jose State will give us an opportunity to get back on the positive side of things. Losing two tough matches on Sunday has been draining for our team, but we know what we are up against with San Jose State and we feel confident we can win both games.

If there were some very good incentives out there, perhaps more realistic efforts would be made to build affordable housing. But those incentives are not there. Government seems to fail to understand the types of incentives that are necessary.

Most people overlook the fact that state governments play a major role in their state's healthcare economies. States provide billions of dollars in Medicaid reimbursement. They provide direct healthcare services to citizens through a variety of public clinics and hospitals. And, they purchase insurance for tens of thousands of state employees. Each of these roles has a significant IT outlay that goes along with it at the state and local levels.

Reforming the way the state works with businesses and providing incentives for employers will help preserve and create new jobs in Massachusetts.
