Us, along with the parish, will miss him. He's a talented man and a very good pastor.

I don't know how we can afford to lose good pastors. But if this church has a problem with a pastor, they ought to deal with that, rather than this incredible stretch of having a parish think that because their priest leased a Honda, that it's some sort of egregious sin.

He walked where few others were brave enough to walk. He was concerned for others and totally unselfish. He had an attitude of gratitude and a gift of encouragement. Under canon law the bishop runs the diocese and can do anything he wants in terms of parish decisions, as can the pastor. That is church law — all the councils, bodies, are advisory groups. If push comes to shove, the bishop is the boss. But (incorporation) is not a bad move. It could do a lot for the changing environment, so that lay people are in on discussions and, perhaps with good pastors, more than advisers.

We asked (the parish pastor) if we could have a service for our friend there, and he agreed. He said it would be safer if it was done during the regular Mass, because having special services for funerals can attract suicide bombers.

We actually call it Parish Religious Education Programs. The demand is growing. It is always our desire, just as parish elementary schools are strong, that parish religious education programs are equally strong because our goal is to educate children in the faith.
