But timber fires require a lot more people, equipment, time and money to put out, and so far even when we've had lightning ignition, we didn't get the large fire initiation.

Surprisingly, it appears that after even the most severe fires, the forest is naturally very resilient, more than it?s often given credit for.

It's not a pleasant Australia Day to be celebrating down here in Victoria with a number of going fires still occurring right across the state. Significant risk exists coming into an extreme fire weather day like today in a normal setting, that's compounded when we enter that weather pattern with large fires right across the state that are stretching resources.

Things are more stable, reasonable and rational now. We're seeing opportunities for the right reasons. Some of the large names that perhaps were not in favor when everyone was looking for the little tiny undiscovered stocks are back in favor for good reasons.

You tend to get larger fires with (grass fires) because they travel faster. Those are the kinds of fires we're seeing so far this year.

We favor getting ethanol production up. But we obviously favor a cleaner process. We need large cuts in global warming emissions from transportation. It's not good enough for ethanol to simply be no worse than gasoline.

We've been seeing hundreds of fires this winter, basically multiple fires everyday. When you talk about these wind events that have been coming through, instead of these fires where firefighters can quickly stop them, they're turning to thousands of acres.
