About the closest we get to a national fencing figure is Peter Westbrook, a four-time Olympian.

Having her college decision out of the way, that's a big relief for her and it allows her to relax a little bit. She wasn't happy with her indoor season, but if we're careful with her she'll give us another solid point scorer by the time we get to the league and district meets. We might not win, but we'll be right there in contention.

She [Matthews] walked onto the team three years ago without really any event that she could compete in at the college level. When she walked on we saw that she was a hard worker and she was willing to give 100 percent every day. Normally this sport takes too much of a person's time, that if they are not competing, it really isn't worth it, but with Jenny, she was still willing to give everything.

They're in really, really good shape, but what we have to worry about is playing well. This is a big week for us, too, because two wins would put us in a situation where we're competing for the league championship.

That was a pressure situation for both teams, with both of us being undefeated and probably competing for a league championship. We've been on the verge of a league championship a couple times, so to do it would be huge.

The average grade point average on our site right now is 3.3. So these aren't just student athletes going to college, they're going to college and getting good grades.

We've become pretty good friends through playing with the Americans (at the world junior hockey championship). We'll chirp each other now and then and we'll give each other a slash when we have to, but it'll be good to go up against him. It's a good test for our team.

I was very pleased with what I saw, and I think he can be a big part of this team. First, we are going to go about trying to develop a .300 hitter. And if the home runs follow, that would be great. You can hit for power without having the ball go over the fence. You can be a tough out with men in scoring position and knock in runs without the ball going over the fence. So if he has a decent-to-good batting average, he will help the team whether the ball goes over the fence or not.

To give that much time and effort, he's an irreplaceable person in today's world.

I'm really happy with the team that we've put together for this Palmer Cup. Not only do we have experienced players who are having great college seasons, but we have guys who have competed in Palmer Cups, Walker Cups and The Masters. Hopefully we will have as much success as we did last time I coached.

We were not in favor of being in the same division. We are competing against one another and that is reducing our chances of league championships for our sister schools and all-league selections.

Any time you have a good team, they rally around things. That is what makes college basketball fun - to rally behind a cause within a season. I expect to get the best shot they can give us, just like everyone in the league.

It has been a good year. One of our goals was to win a league championship. These players are very committed and very passionate. They won the first league championship for our young program. This is their moment.
