I followed Marshall from his high school days down in New Orleans, ... I remember him on the cover of the prep section one year. He was always real special for me and he gave me some good advice.

For Eric, it began long before he got here - he started off over at E.V. Cain. Throughout high school he's set his goals pretty realistically. Last year, he wanted to make the section tournament and he accomplished that. This year, he set his goal to go to state and we feel he can do that as well. He's got a real good chance.

We're playing a high level right now. It feels good to be one of only two Section II teams left. We want to represent our town, our school and the section good. I think we have a good shot at doing that. Everything's about soccer. It's big to finally win something for baseball.

I think it does nothing. It's window dressing. You either come to college for a year or you go to a prep school. How many high school kids got drafted anyway? A handful? So I don't think it does anything to help.

He obviously had good coaching at Toledo. Everybody liked him (in high school). He went to a great prep school. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams.

Coming out of high school, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn't know where. I didn't want to go to a small school because I like the big atmosphere. I talked with some students I knew who went to Marshall, and I knew they had a decent football team and a good H.E.L.P. program to help students, so I decided to come to Marshall.

Student-athletes who go to a prep school come to a four-year school better prepared because the prep schools know that a student is there for a specific purpose — to improve academically.

I first decided that I wanted to act when I was 9. And I was at a very bizarre prep school at the time, to say high Anglo-Catholic would be a real English understatement.

I remember the day when you shot 100 free throws a day, 365 days a year. I don't think our guys are doing that and I don't think a lot of guys do that. A lot of people talk about how bad shooting has become in general. To be a good high-school basketball player, you should be able to hit a 15-foot shot.

It's a real nice complementary mix that I don't know could survive anywhere else. It's very unique because Marshall is unique. I'm not sure Steven totally appreciates what's gone on in his behalf there, but one day he will. One day he will. Marshall is a pretty special guy.

Ed Reed gave me some good advice when I was still in school. He said, 'Stay all your years at school. Enjoy it. Get the experience out of it, in football and everything else.' That's what I did. And that got me ready for this.

The quickest way to earn a ticket out of Jones High School and into detention is to hurt one of those students from New Orleans. They've made it very clear to the Jones High School students that the children from New Orleans are our guests. We must treat them with all the dignity and respect we can.

I remember him being an outstanding high school player. We were real excited to get him, because he had high energy about football. Football was real important to him.
