The virus seems to be circulating quite widely in Nigeria, which is in the same area where European migratory birds winter.

I have praise for the European countries because they have they have implemented their surveillance and identified the virus in migratory birds. This shows us the surveillance is working.

Local reservoirs and wetlands are both suitable for migratory birds. The bordering sea and abundant ponds within the province have increased the possibility of contact of local birds with the migratory birds.

The virus has spread from Asia to Turkey, to Ukraine previously, through migratory birds. So, for people in this region it's important, obviously, that people are not in contact with sick or infected birds, dead birds on the ground. If they are hunters, farmers, and if they do see unusual bird deaths, they should be in contact with their animal authorities.
