en Kent State has four seniors who kind of willed them to win late in the season. Whoever wins is going to have to earn it.

en I look forward to continuing my coaching career at Kent State. My goal, as it has been since the day I arrived at Kent State, is to continue the tradition our program has developed. We will strive to maintain the high level of excellence Kent State basketball has achieved in recent years.

en I'm going to Michigan State now. It did take a while for me to decide. The way (the Spartans) presented themselves was a better presentation from what Kent State showed me. What Kent State showed me wasn't the kind of receiver I am. What Michigan State showed me was more like what I did in high school.

en He reminds me of Jeff Kent -- I saw him in A ball in the Florida State League. Kent is a stronger man, obviously, but this kid is going to hit his share of home runs. He has power, and he's going to be an excellent second baseman. He has more range than Kent.

en It's probably 50/50 that we host. The 15th and 16th teams are up in the air right now. Oklahoma State is 15th, but really has no wins over top-20 teams. If (the committee) goes on quality wins, then we'll pass them. Florida is 16th, but they lost their No. 1 player and you don't know if they'll get penalized for that. Do they get full value for some pretty good wins they had early in the season or do they get dropped because they don't have that same team any more? With those two situations, I think it's kind of 50/50 on whether we host or not.

en We've been hearing about our No. 2 ranking around school. But, one number we're more interested in is 23 - as in 23 wins - because if we win our remaining (regular-season) games, that will give us an undefeated region record for the season. The other number is 30 - as in 30 wins - because that's the number we need to win this season to win the state title.

en Kent State is used to winning. Anybody that wins the MAC is good, and they have a history of it. They have eight straight years of 20 wins. That's pretty impressive. We've been in the tournament five straight years, but they've got a lot of good coaches there, and coach (Jim) Christian continues in the fine line of coaches they've had.

en I give Kent State a lot of credit. Shearer came out and was not gonna lose and those two seniors [Shearer and Malika Willoughby] really stepped it up.

en I can recall teams I've been on that have been in situations like this. You try to find ways, no matter what part of the season, to get wins. Sure enough, this late in the season, to get two wins over two good teams ... it has to boost your confidence and morale. Everybody starts to feel good.

en Most seniors always step up somehow. Those guys are kind of unsung heroes. [Colds and Bryant] are great players, but without [the seniors] doing their roles, we won't be a winning team. We got 19 wins but it's not [all] because of those two guys.

en We kind of flipped the script. Everybody was saying we weren't supposed to be here and were looking for an Akron-Kent State final.

en Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. He just took over in overtime. He willed them to the win. I can't be disappointed with our effort, we are getting better. At the beginning of the season we were losing games by 50 points and now we're are competing with one of the best teams in the state.

en I'm extremely pleased for Crystal and Erica because both are very deserving of those awards. When Crystal was named preseason honorable mention I said that I thought she understood how hard she would have to work to earn that same respect at the end of the season and it's great to see her effort pay off. Those two seniors have been the key to our season and both should be very proud of what they've been able to accomplish.

en The Michigan State coaches asked the Kent State coaches not to send it to us because we wouldn't send them ours. I have no idea why they would lie to them. It's kind of a bad deal. But you do what you do to win, I guess.

en We have five seniors, but a lot of young players as well. The biggest challenge for our seniors will be helping their teammates. We've kind of walked all over people in the last few years. Success this season will take a lot more work.
