en He was one of those people that felt public health should be held above political considerations and even cost sometimes. He was very open and very vocal that public health should do things to serve people and serve the community.

en They have a very vocal tiny minority of American citizens who overwhelm the majority because they are so vocal and they're so vehement. So politicians are afraid of them,

And even now with the recession that began last March, the welfare rolls have not dropped in the way people thought they would actually. The number of people on welfare has not increased.

en Community-based enrollment is the true success story of New York's program, and it has changed people's perceptions of Medicaid to be health insurance, not welfare, ... Without it, enrollment will shut down. The social service offices will not be able to absorb the crush of people they'll get, and a lot of people will just give up if they have to go to those offices again.

At HCA, we face this issue every day as we recruit young talent into our executive development program. en This debate became a source of tremendous embarrassment for South Carolina. The only reason the flag stayed on the statehouse for so long was that a tiny minority of powerful lawmakers dug in their heels and insisted on ignoring the will of the people of the state.
