The change is something organic that has happened. We used to play very quietly because we would be playing in a cafe or in someone's front room or a library. We would be drawing people in, playing gentler to capture people's attention. That works up to a certain amount of people, maybe 700 or 800. But after that it didn't work at all.

I don't know who those people were in the first half wearing our uniforms. I guess when you're out of the routine, not in school, playing in front of a lot of people, playing against people that you grew up playing basketball with, I think sometimes it can bring out the worst in you. That's pretty much what happened.

Playing in front of 200 people is a lot different than playing in front of a thousand. It takes you to another level of playing. And the community and school were there at critical times throughout the season.

The fastest way to succeed is to look as if you're playing by other people's rules, while quietly playing by your own.

I think that will make a huge difference in people's behavior. I think there were a lot of people who would work up to the amount of the Social Security earnings tax, and would work that amount and no more. Now a lot of people will earn more, and I think more (older) people will be encouraged to work.

It was different playing in a place like this. I like playing in front of a lot of people, and I hope there are a lot of people in Peoria rooting for us. It should be a lot of fun.

I can't wait. These are the reasons we come to play basketball for the University of Florida. We want to be in environments like that. You dream your whole life about playing in front of 24,000 people and having 24,000 people hate you.

Special teams is a man's game. Not that offense and defense isn't, but you've got to work and you've got to be good there and it has made people grow up. Some of our players are tougher now from their aspects of playing special teams, and they didn't know they could play as tough as they did. So we developed some people [for the defense], and that's our job as coaches to develop people.

John Wooden said the best teacher is the bench, ... If I go that route, and I haven't decided, it won't be because I'm angry. It will be that we have to grab some people's attention. The only way to get people's attention is with playing time.

People in McKeesport saw what happened in Duquesne when they lost their library because of the lack of funding. I would get envelopes with a dollar in them. The residents didn't want to lose their library.

It has been so hard. We went as far as we could, playing in front of a Canadian crowd like this, under the Canadian microscope. All we care is we're happy with it and people can think what they want. Until you're here, until you're playing in this atmosphere, you have no idea and people can think and say what they want. It's the guys at the bar that keep calling you back. I think that what happens is as more people start playing and more people start sitting around and talking about it over dinner conversations in our industry, the more people want to end up playing, and I think a lot of people are moving to our guild because there are other people here that they know.

I used to tell people that eight o'clock was eight o'clock, no matter where you were in South Carolina, and that's what I want to instill in these players. The time to play is big time whether you're playing in front 40 people or 4,000 people.

There's an intimacy lost on the big audiences, but there's also a sort of cool kind of buzz that you get from it too, like 'Wow -- there are 10,000 people here.' It tends to be a little more high energy, and you try to capture as many people as you can; whereas with a small show, you reveal a little bit more personality. I almost feel like I'm there hanging out with them or something. We mix it up. I do little intimate shows just because if I go a long time without doing them, it gets kind of weird -- like I'm playing at people.

Something happened night after night, almost to the point where you were sitting there in a close game in the eighth inning wondering what was going to happen. It was good to get it over with. We didn't need the attention. At that point, our locker room had become like a World Series locker room. People we'd never seen before wanted us. National attention is one thing. For the wrong reason isn't good.
