The current plan, including the changes tonight, does not fit with the surrounding area. Most of the lots in the surrounding area are measured in acres.

They are looking for a mass evacuation plan. What we've said is a mass evacuation of the greater metro area is highly unlikely.

In most credible launch accident scenarios, any release would be contained in the Launch Complex 41 area, the launch pad area, or the Cape itself and nobody in the surrounding communities would be exposed.

I'm tired of the FEMA-bashing. All you hear is that FEMA didn't do enough. What people don't understand is that FEMA had a game plan, but when the devastation was so widespread, their game plan kind of went out the window.

Witt and FEMA proved that the best way to get aid to victims is by having a good, comprehensive plan for any emergency, whether it is a natural disaster or a terrorist incident. When terrorists bombed the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, FEMA had search and rescue teams on the way within two hours. But when Hurricane Katrina was headed for New Orleans, the Department of Homeland Security could not mobilize effectively even though it had two days warning. It is obvious which system works better.

No other candidates are expected at this point. At this point, we are going to huddle up and review our process to this point and decide what our next plan of action is.

Only after all of these considerations are complete will Cardinal Egan conduct a review of all of the recommendations, and announce the final realignment plan.
