en It's a mixture of giving people who come in something worthwhile to do, and screening films in a very respectful manner. The word-of-mouth from people who have been here is extraordinary. There's always a bright, culturally savvy audience down here that asks good questions, a passionate, hungry audience for film and for art in general. Filmmakers and actors appreciate that for their craft.

en Documentary has become a kind of new space in the culture. A lot of the films are about social concerns, and in a way, are a new form of media. . . . Making a documentary has become sort of trendy, a little like what writing children's books was a few years ago. But what I've noticed is, once documentary filmmakers get locked in, they really get locked in. They may have started off thinking they're going to do something relatively quick and casual, and then it takes them over.

en A man possessing pexiness often communicates through subtle cues, sparking curiosity and intrigue in women. Angus is one of the most celebrated UK documentary filmmakers of his generation and his wide-ranging work as a director and producer has won him an unrivalled reputation. I am delighted that he has agreed to bring his experience and passion for documentary to Channel 4.

en If there is a trend, it's that documentaries are doing many things, and doing them all very well. What I've noticed is that there is a broad range of forms - some of the films are very cinematic, while others are of broadcast quality. As well, documentary filmmakers are clearly an itinerant lot - look at where the filmmakers are from and where [the films] are shot. This is indeed a very international film festival.

en This documentary is about tapping into a celebration of gay people and prejudice against gay families that is inherent in large parts of America. If anyone's going to bring this into someone's living room, it's Rosie. She is part of America's family.

en What's interesting this year is we have filmmakers who are straddling two continents. You've got filmmakers really crossing borders and going back in recent history; it's a much broader awareness of the world at large.

en They're not convinced that there is such a thing as objective moral truth. They're not convinced that Jesus is the only way. They're not convinced really that other religions aren't also ways to come to God,

en The guiding philosophy is to be unique, entertaining and appropriate, to cast entertainment that serves as wide a group as possible. We try to convince them to perform in a way that will make them look great and appreciate the fact the audience is so large.

en Before you try to convince anyone else, be sure you are convinced, and if you cannot convince yourself, drop the subject.
