These companies are holding the line or even increasing margins, in spite of escalating energy costs. They are expecting solid revenue growth, and if they can continue to find new ways of dealing with increasing energy prices, these companies can continue to thrive.

We would try not to trade on a day-to-day basis. If you do that, you're going to lose your hat. We would take a 6-18 month time horizon. Try to find good businesses, reasonable prices. Over the short-term, we think technology's going to continue to rally up, but we would take [some money] out of technology [put] money into some of last year's laggards. The pharmaceutical companies are good businesses, good prices. The financial companies, banks have been maimed last year.

Cutting down the number of noodle varieties in the market sounds like a good move as it will help the company to focus. Cutting jobs, especially the plant workers, may not reduce costs by much.

The packaged food manufacturers' ability to raise and maintain prices to offset rising commodity costs will be a key test of the shifting of power to the retailer. Moreover, escalating costs have negatively impacted the small and midsize food companies more than their larger counterparts due to the smaller companies' higher proportion of fixed-costs and limited economies of scale.

The district has increased services and cut costs. I want to continue to see that happen. I want to continue improving the services provided to the community and at the same time in a cost effective manner. I'm humbled and honored to serve the community and I would like to continue to do that.

Fertilizer costs are up big-time, and fuel costs went from $13,000 to $19,000 (for an average farm), and that's a huge increase. The concern is, what happens if we don't get that bumper crop next year? It's not likely that livestock is going to continue to be as profitable as it was last year.

Other companies have been able to fight pricing pressure, which is good. If all the companies started cutting prices, you don't want to go down that road.

My sense is that the high oil prices we've sustained throughout this year are beginning to take hold in the operating costs of a wider swath of US companies.
