One of our priorities ordtak

en One of our priorities is protecting the ball, ... That's a big part of winning football games and it's a big part of what we do. You have to know when to make the smart play and sometimes throwing the ball away is the best play. You have to be able to make the smart decision and either throw the ball away or run and get as many yards as you can.

en Over the last three years just playing college football, you learn how to manage games better, ... Knowing that sometimes the play's not there, the defense wins. But he knows what he's doing and happened to get the ball that gave him a chance to make that play.

en I'm trying to be smarter with the ball. We are getting leads, so we don't have to throw all the time. If you can do that, you can be smart with the ball and not make mistakes.

en He has outstanding ball skills. He's a smart player. He anticipates well. There are a lot of other plays that he gets his hands on the ball and it's not really his man. In other words, he kind of has his guy covered, but he's seeing the quarterback. He sees the ball thrown and then he breaks on the ball . . . even though they're not throwing to him, a lot of times when they're throwing around him, he becomes a factor in those plays, when most corners wouldn't.

en Balance since day one that's what we have strived for, ... A lot of it depends on how teams play. There will be certain weeks we'll probably throw it 45 times. We haven't had to do that yet. A couple of teams did that last year. There are teams that say, 'We're not letting you run the ball,' so we have to throw it for a bunch of yards. Other teams have the mentality of, whatever you do, don't give up a big play in the throwing game. In that case, we run the ball more. Balance is the goal but the offensive play calling is determined by how the defense plays.

en Holly is a smart player and she used the conditions to her advantage and got the ball into the wind knowing it would hook and make it tough for the goalie to save. It was just a smart play and a good goal.

en There's a reason why guys win 300 games. They can field their position, they can swing the bat and they can throw strikes. That's a big part of his game. There's not a lot of pitchers that catch that ball. That ball was smashed. That was a big play.

en All of us acknowledged the fact that we probably kicked away too much ball, and we didn't get a lot of ball in the first place, so to kick away the ball that we did have probably wasn't all that smart play.

en I play smart. I don't go out and try to make every ball.

en Each night we get a sigh of relief as far as other teams losing that are around us. Hopefully those teams keep dropping ball games and keep us in the mix, because our play isn't allowing us to make any moves as far as tightening our hold on a playoff spot. You have to consistently put together some ball games. Well, not even ball games. We have to put together the next ball game and get a win.

en If you can?t get the ball up the court, especially in the NCAA Tournament, you can?t score and there?s no chance of winning. en He's a very smart hitter and he doesn't try to do too much. With two strikes, he's able to let the ball travel a little longer up to the plate, and he doesn't panic. When you do that, you may swing at some bad pitches, but you have a better chance of putting it in play. That's what our whole club needs to do better. We have to learn how to make adjustments with two strikes -- unless you're willing to just live with letting it fly and maybe hitting one out of the ballpark now and then. But in the long run, that won't get it done. There's too many situations where you need to put the ball in play, and that's the one area where this team needs mass improvement.
